M + F - Union/Pine wedding - Portland, Oregon

I had the honor of shooting one of the most beautiful weddings that I've ever been a part of a few weekends ago in Portland. I had been looking forward to their big day ever since our engagement shoot on Sauvie Island last November.  The day started at the couple's home in the Hawthorne area. I really didn't know what to expect starting the shoot in their home, but I was absolutely blown away. Not only did their home have amazing locations like the sunroom attached to their bedroom that we used as the bridal suite, but the bride was so relaxed and naturally "at home" in her own space. The day continued with our couple photos in Mt. Tabor park and then on to Union/Pine for the ceremony and reception. The couple were so relaxed and happy throughout the day. Por Que No? catered the event, which if you know me, made my day SO MUCH BETTER!! (I actually enjoyed the PQN so much that I spilled salsa down the front of my white shirt !) Everything about M&F's day was absolutely perfect and I was so happy to be a part of it.

Elvia + Anthony - World Forestry Center wedding - Portland, Oregon

It was such an honor to be a part of Elvia & Anthony wedding a few weeks ago in Portland. I've been looking forward to their big day ever since we first met for their engagement photos last May. Their wedding day started off with a bang at Hotel Deluxe in downtown Portland. Elvia was zipping up her dress right as I walked into her bridal suite and off the day went! After an emotional first look, we headed to St. Patrick's Church where the couple exchanged their vows in front of the closest family and friends. After a quick ride across town, the party really started at the World Forestry Center. The reception was filled with amazing speeches, tons of laughter and a great dance party! I'm so happy for these two. Their love truly shows through in all that they do. Big cheers to the newlyweds!

Christian + Kristen - Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden - Portland, Oregon

Christian & Kristen chose the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden for the backdrop to their beautiful, intimate wedding affair. In front of their closest 40 friends and family they exchanged their vows on a mid-90 degree Portland day. The day started with some early wedding day nerves that quickly settled as Christian & Kristen shared their first look. The love that these two share shows in the way that they embrace and care for each other. I was so honored to be a part of their special day. Huge congrats to the newlyweds! I can't wait to watch the journey these two take.

Sam + Celia - Horning's Hideout wedding - North Plains, Oregon

I had such a blast photographing Sam & Celia's fantastic wedding a few weekends ago at Horning's Hideout. When I first met with Sam & Celia months ago they told me that they wanted their wedding to feel like a backyard party. Horning's Hideout served as the perfect backdrop for their party. The ceremony, held creekside, was nestled into the woods was the perfect way to kick off their amazing day. Sam & Celia were such amazing hosts to their backyard party, always with a smile on their face as they moved effortlessly amongst their closest friends and family. Love and joy was in the air the entire day. Seeing true love is obvious to anyone that is looking for it and Sam and Celia have it! It was an honor to be a part of their amazing day.

Lindsay + Matt - Cooper's Hall wedding - Portland, Oregon

I kicked off my 8th season of wedding photography a few weeks ago with Lindsay & Matt's amazing day. From the day that I met them, I knew that this was going to be one of the most fun weddings of the year. These two are so at ease with each other. They make everyone feel so happy and special and it totally showed through on their day. It's rare to be at a wedding where every single guest was engaged - laughing, smiling, dancing, cheering. These two have an amazing bond. Throughout the day, thoughts in my head were equal parts "I'm so happy I'm photographing this wedding. It's so beautiful!" and "I really wish I was a guest at this wedding! These people know how to get down!" On a 95* day, I was also very thankful for the temperature controlled urban winery, Cooper's Hall which is now one of my new favorite Portland venues. All in all, Lindsay & Matt's wedding was amazing and a perfect start to the season!

Zardo family

I had such a blast meeting the Zardo family last weekend at their home in NW Portland. What was supposed to be a sunny Sunday turned into a down pouring hail/thunder and lightning storm during our shoot. But it didn't detur this family from doing the shoot anyways! Their 3.5 year old showed me all of his cars and airplanes while his newborn sister pleasantly sat in mom's lap for most of the shoot. After some time shooting in their home, the Portland sun came out and we skipped across the street to Wallace Park where we finished off our shoot. It was so much fun to meet this new family. I'm excited to watch them grow over the years.

Wells family

I got to photograph one of my favorite families this past weekend at Peninsula Park in North Portland. This was the first time that I have been able to photograph them. The first time was for a maternity shoot and then again a few month later for their newborn shoot. It was so much fun to see these guys again and to watch their little one grow. We had a perfect spring afternoon in the park which was full of budding flowers and green grass. Towards the end of the shoot, they let me know that they are moving to Barcelona (next week!). I'm bummed that they are leaving Portland but I'm excited to see all of their adventures ahead.

Kim family photos

I had such a blast meeting the Kim family this past weekend at Columbia Park in North Portland. The twin boys had just turned one the week prior. Given that it was their birthday, they did what any one-year-olds would do - play in the (eat the) grass, laugh at their parents and grandmas and open presents! And all of this while wearing ties! This family was so great to work with. I hope I can watch them grow up over the years.

Dexter family - one-year-old portraits

I had the pleasure of photographing the Dexter family for the third time this past weekend at Lewis & Clark college. The first time I met them was for their pregnancy shoot and then again for a newborn session. It was so fun to see Alivia again and do some photos in honor of her first birthday! We had such a great morning walking around the campus. They even brought a makeshift hot air ballon. I'm looking forward to watching this family grow over the years!

Johnson family photos

I met the Johnson family last weekend at Powell Butte Park. We were so lucky to get an amazingly sunny April afternoon for our shoot. Their little one, who turns one in a few weeks, was just a trooper for our shoot. She smiled and laughed throughout our entire shoot! I was super pumped to meet another great family who has recently moved to Portland. I'm looking forward to watching this family grow over the years!

North Portland family photos

I had such a blast photographing Kate, Ian and their two girls last weekend at Pier Park near their home in the St. John's neighborhood. I first met this family two years ago when I photographed them at . Little did I know that, two years later, Kate would become my kids teacher! These guys were such troopers during our hour long photo session. It started out with downpours! As I approached the park that we were meeting at, I texted them to see if they wanted to wait out the rain and to my delight, as I pulled up I saw them all standing in the rain, rain jackets and hoods on ready to go! We endured a good Portland soaking during our shoot but it didn't phase anyone and we had a blast. By the end we were treated to perfectly beautiful blue skies and bright sunshine.

Ronnie & Phil - Sauvie Island engagements

I had such a blast a few weekends ago on Sauvie Island photographing Ronnie & Phil's engagement session. We got super lucky and had dry skies for our late February shoot. These two are such a pleasure to spend time with. Their love for each other emanates in everything they do from the way that they hold hands to the way that their noses crinkle up when they smile at each other.  You can tell from a mile away that these two were meant to be together. I can't wait to see what the future holds for these two.

2016 Year in Review

Our beautiful city has turned into a spectacular winter wonderland over the last few days which has made me slow down and reflect on 2016. This past year has no doubt has it's ups and downs. I've certainly had my moments of feeling deflated and frustrated. In a world that seems to be growing more and more insulated and isolated I continue to find hope in the stories of the families that I meet each year.

Through photography I am able gain access to people, places and experiences that I never thought were possible. As I look back on 2016, I'm thankful to have met so many people who are contributing good to the world. Your smiles, laughs, hugs and faith in me to tell your story fills me with endless joy. I truly believe that a photograph can change someone's life. In an overly curated world, I feel stronger than ever that my job as a photographer is to tell true, honest stories. Honesty, compassion and truth are my beckons of hope for change.

I want to thank each and every one of you who has taken the time to view my work, refer me to your friends and family to trust me. I do everything in my power to pour my heart and soul into telling your story. I am looking forward to meeting new families and telling their stories in 2017.

Enjoy my top three weddings of 2016 below.

Brown family

I had so much fun meeting a new family last weekend at Mt. Tabor. We had such a blast exploring the park, ducking under large trees during short downpours and finding nice walking paths for their little one when the rain stopped. It is always so great to meet new families and hear their stories. (Extra bonus when we share Minnesotanship in common!) I hope we can make this a yearly tradition.

Wetzel family

I had the pleasure of photographing a new family last weekend near their home at Columbia Park. This family was such fun to work with and their little guy, Xavier was all smiles for the entire shoot. We got super lucky with the weather and even saw a little bit of sun during our shoot. Xavier was full of life as we ran, climbed trees, chased squirrels and played on the playground during our shoot. I look forward to watching this family grow!

Wells family newborn session

This past weekend I had the pleasure of seeing the Wells family again. I first met them a few months ago when Mary Beth was nearing the end of her pregnancy. It was so fun to see them again, in their home and to meet their newest addition, four-week-old Chloe. We had so much fun oohing and ahhing at Chloe. She was such a good sport for our shoot, even during her (many) outfit changes. I'm looking forward to watching this family grow in the coming years.

Sample family

I had the pleasure of photographing one of my favorite families last weekend in their home in SW Portland. This is the fourth year in a row that I've photographed Dean and his parents. I first met him when he was a tiny 2-week-old baby. To watch him grow each year is a true honor for me. This year, he showed me around his house introducing me to his trains, showing me where his squirrels live and even showing me how he can now ride a bike. Happy 3rd birthday, Dean! I can't wait to see what you'll be up to next year.

Sauvie Island engagement photos

Last weekend I shot an engagement session on Sauvie Island. It was one of those crazy, November, Portland days where the rain and sun took turns trading off each hour. Luckily for us, we chose right and got a beautiful hour to shoot in multiple locations on the island. I had so much fun with this couple and look forward to shooting their wedding next summer.

Mahadeva family

I had the pleasure of photographing the Mahadeva family for the second year in a row at their home in Camas last weekend. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon so we decided to do the shoot in their home - the perfect venue for their 2-year-old and newest addition to feel comfortable and at ease. We had such fun exploring the kid's bedrooms, their favorite sunny window seat, and lots of giggles along the way. I hope that we can make this a yearly tradition!

Naumovski family

This time of year I have an ongoing fear of rain on the weekends. With most of my weekends packed full of outdoor photoshoots, I'm always worried that I'll get rained out. I was so pleased that the Naumovski family decided to brave the rain last weekend for our shoot in Washington Park. We did the shoot on their 3-year-old Graham's birthday. We had so much fun running around in the park chasing squirrels, finding face-sized leaves and dodging the rain. I had so much photographing this family. I hope we can make it a yearly tradition!
